Actually, I have 3 different combo sets of center fire calibers; an Uberti SA Cav. model pistol and two Rossi M92s, a 20" carbine and 24" rifle in 357mag, another Uberti SA Army model pistol and two Ubertis, a 19" Model 1866 Yellowboy and a 24" Model 1873 Special Sporting Rifle in .45 Colt, and finally a Glock 22 and a Ruger PC 40 in .40 S&W. Plinkin or hunting, having a sidearm in the same caliber as your long gun is just a whole lot easier and performance of the .357 is increased as much as 570 fps, the .45 Colt increased increased by 305fps, while I pick up a bit over 200fps with the .40 S&W.

The .357mag sets are my favorites as I handload and have found that a full 18.0grn charge of Lil'Gun powder under a Zero 158grn JSP bullet produces an astounding 2,005 fps out of my 24" rifle at 6,100ft asl (Colorado) on an 84 deg. day which is some 10% faster than the 1,822 fps I've gotten for the last 10 yrs using the same combo with H110 powder. Best of all, the Lil'Gun has a much lower peak pressure so it doesn't beat up my brass like H110 does. With a tang and globe sight set on my rifle length Rossi, I have a 30" sight radius which is good enough to go after bowling pins at 200yds with ease and at 300yds if I'm on my game.

The .45 Colt sets both run Unique as the toggle link actions don't like high pressures so 14,00 psi is my limit with them but they're still a hoot to shoot. Again, I have a tang sight on my rifle length 1873 and while not as fast as the .357, I can still smack those pesky pins at 200 yds most of the time; at 100yds, it's a breeze.

The Glock/Ruger set is new as I just recently got the Ruger and the smaller case size of the .40 S&W limits performance and powder choice. I've settled on Power Pistol as my 'magnum' .40 powder as I use that in my 10mm. I've found that the Ruger is good for about 125 yds before the drop is excessive but it's still a lot of fun. I replaced the rear leaf sight with a rear of the receiver peep sight by NECG, doubling the sight radius and giving me an accurate 100yd shooter.
