Okay so I am not able to find any ammo for my rifle that has been in my family since my dad bought it in 1967 or 68. I am even considering a reloader set up but cannot even find brass for it. All these years of shooting and unfortunately I didnt save my brass.

Any recommendations on what I can do here? Where can IU get ammo, brass, etc.....??? Does Winchester makle season runs of this ammo?

There is very limited runs of .284 ammunition from winchester. I still see it in the stores every now and then, but as you know, its not a common caliber. I reload my .284's and have bought winchester brand brass from my local supplier here in Nova Scotia within the last year or so. Brownells has it listed but backordered. Here's a link if you want to try to get on their wait list.. http://www.brownells.com/reloading/bras ... 34746.aspx

I'm a big fan of the Hornady SST bullet for hunting, and they are much easier to get in my area than most other bullet brands..
I've loaded the 162 grain with good results in my .284 model 100.
162 gr. SST's have the highest Ballistic Coefficient of all Hornady's SST .284 bullets (.550), but they
are also available in 139 grain and 154 grain if you want to try something a bit lighter and faster. The Hornady A-MAX bullet is also a very good choice if you are target or varmint shooting. The 162 grain SST bullets need to be seated quite deep in the cases due to the restrictions in C.O.A.L. in the model 100's short action, but they still seem to do ok even though you can't seat the bullet touching the rifling.. I'm going to try the 139 grain bullets soon to see if my group sizes can improve a bit. I'm getting around 1-1/2" to 2" groups at 100 yds with the 165's, not outstanding, but fine for deer hunting.

Great info. I only use mine for deer hunting. It has never been the tightest group rifle I own but was my Dad's and then was given to me so it has more sentimental value than anything. I still have to get my reloader and all set up and then wait on my brass but am excited to start loading my own. Fortunately my uncle has been loading for probably 30 years and can help me get set up. Most likely I will start with the 154 grain as its close to what I have used in the past. So it looks like once you get the brass to fit, then as far as bullets, there are many options.

I have read some about people creating other rounds like the 6.5-284 Norma and vrious others. Have you done any of these?

Reloading is a great hobby, I really hope you can come to enjoy it as much as I do. I just reload ammunition for the calibers I own.
Calibers that I currently reload are:
.222 Remington for my model 70
.284 Winchester for my winchester 100
.30-30 Winchester for my winchester model 64
.32 Winchester Spl. for a couple of model 1894's
.308 Winchester for my model 88's
.300 H&H for a pre-war model 70
.303 British for a couple of old military rifles.
.45-75 for my 1876 winchester, (this was my first gun and the first caliber I reloaded.)
.45 ACP for a Ruger 1911 I purchased just over a year ago

I told my son about getting into reloading last night and he is looking forward to it as well Between the two of us we probably have about 40 rifles and shotguns, plus a few pistols. You have quite an extensive list and looks like we have a few more in common than the 284. I also have the 303 British, which an awesome old shooter as well as a Winschester 30-30 that my dad bought new in 1963. I have these two along with a Mosin - Nagant in a glass display case in my media room. Some of my others are:
Remington 270
Remington 243
Browning Auto 5 12 Ga
Reminington Model 1100 12 Ga
CZ52 Pistol
S&W 9mm
M1 Carbine

My wish list is even loinger and wy son has even more than I do. He always asked for guns for birthdays and Christmas, and being a gun lover, I never passed up a chance to get him one.

I appreciate all your feedback and help, amd am sure I will be messaging you again with questions. These on line forums are great!
