Can someone tell me if you can swap out the 18" barrel on the SXP Defender (model 512252395) for something longer if desired? I know they also make a camp/field combo (model 512257392) which is almost perfect, but I don't like the look of the fore-end as much on that one. On a related note, do the guns otherwise perform the same? Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately with the defender you can not add longer barrels due to the increased magazine capacity. You could get the black shadow series and add a longer barrel though. The guns all perform the same.

This is not true. You can add a barrel to your sxp defender. The 28" barrel that fits the sxp defender comes with a modified inv+ choke and a vent rib barrel. It is model number 611257392. $139

Yes, Winchester makes a 28" barrel for the Defender that has the lug at the 5 shot position for the Defender's longer mag.

If you want a rifled barrel, you can use the barrels made for the 4-shot models on the 5-shot Defender, you just need to make a tube to slip over the magazine between the barrel lug and the mag's end cap.

That guide is for using 4-shot 870 barrels on 5-shot Pardner Pumps, but the idea is the same.
