1892 Carbine broken barrel band screw

Be great if anyone can offer an answer to this one. I have a screw breakage on the rear barrel band leaving half the screw in place at the threads. Is the barrel notched to allow clear passage for the screw which will stop me from drifting off the magazine tube and barrel band/fore-end in one piece cos I sure can't drill out that thin screw without spoiling the threads? Other than that it's real sweet but I guess you know that about these guns.
