unknown letter stampings

can anyone tell me what the letters " DC " mean ? they are about 1/16th " or smaller and stamped underneath the receiver just in front of the trigger. as viewed left to right with muzzle pointing away from me & bolt facing downward. the carbine is a model 1894 ser. # 1472xxx in .30 WCF " flat band " .
possible previous owners initials ?

I would agree with your guess about "DC being a previous owners initials". I haven't seen any marked in that location with stamped letters from the factory before. You may be able to get some more info from the cody firearms museum if you give them a call.
