What is the difference between item number 535211225 (M70 Ultimate Shadow .25-06) and one that shows to be a "historic product" on Winchester's website, item # 535135225? Both look like they have the same features on the website. Both are still available commercially, the 135 (historic product) is less expensive--not wanting to pinch pennies, and if there is a reason the "newer" is better then okay but if its just for a different item number….. Thanks!

Called Winchester, they said the lower number (discontinued) was made in New Haven, the new one made in S. Carolina. Any reason the S. Carolina ones would be better?

Built on newer, better, more precise equipment...especially the barrels.

You'll also find the barrel shank dimensions are different with the old Winny 70's being a 1 inch shank with a 16 TPI thread and the new ones being 1 inch shank with a 20 TPI? thread.

The new ones as Ridgerunner mentioned may be more accurate plus have the MOA trigger.

I agree with Jorge in Oz that the new ones are more accurate. However the older Model 70 Winchesters were very accurate. It's just that the new ones are hard to believe accurate. The Model 70 Ultimate Shadow SS I am shooting is one of the most accurate rifles i have ever seen and also seems to shoot almost any .243 Winchester round in a tight group. The New Haven Plant quality control was very good. The Carolina Plant QC seems to be exceptionally good!
