I found a older m70 looks like a classic sporter looking rifle in local pawn shop I'm debating buying. It is a control feed and is blued. It has the reddish looking checkered stock with red butt pad. I think it was a XTR but not sure. Had a old redfield scope on it. The gun was taken care of. It had some small minor dings though. I think it was a 26" barrel. Chambered in 270 weatherby mag. They had it mislabeled as a 270 win mag and did not fix it on tag. Serial number started with a G164***. It was very heavy compared to most and I own a push feed feather weight 7mm mag that I love. I always wanted a control feed one in 7mm or whatever. Price is $780.00 but I think I will get it for $720 maybe less from what I'm told. I need to know more about when it was made and ect.

6 digit serial numbers beginning with 164 are all from 1950.

A "G" will be in front of it on a pre 64 gun? Its a non iron sight rifle. What you think about it?

They started using the G in front of the number after 1968 due to the Gun Control Act.

I went and looked at it again. Its not a xtr it is what I really thought it was a classic sporter. Floor plate has w95 marked inside of it along with something else. Barrel marked New Haven, Conn. The Winchester on the receiver has trade mark under it. What can anyone tell me about it? I got them down from $780 to $686 plus tax which was $750.00 otd. Has a old redfield 3x12 adj obj scope on it on high rings with a leather sling. Seemed to be a tight action. I put it on layway.

I missed the G prefix when I did the serial number search, its definitely not a pre 64.

I picked up a set of rcbs dies for the 270 wby mag only one sportsman warehouse had. They only had 2 kinds of powder I found lol was IMR 7828. They had 4 and due to limit bought two 1 lb bottles. Now to get some brass, bullets, and ammo before I get it out of layway.
