Sears Model 53 (Winchester Model 70)

My very cool uncle just picked me up a Sears Model 53 in .270. He told me that Sears had Winchester make these back in the day. I should have the rifle in two weeks. He paid $250 (with a scope). He said that it had one owner and is in very good shape.
Does anyone have one of these? Is it a good deer rifle? I am not sure what year it is.. Once I get my hands on it I will try to figure it out.
