I'd sure like to have access to this many slings to test on a new Model 70! I use a number of different slings. There are some very good ones here. On a bolt action scoped rifle I find a sling REQUIRED.

I bought two different leather slings from Midwest. Both of the them are of high quality, and worth more than the selling price. Their military sling is about about the same as the generic leather slings you find in LGS and of much higher quality. I put that sling on one of my Model 94 30-30's. The wider padded sling with the small thumb loop works well on my Model 70 Classic.
Don't hesitate to buy anything from this company. Their prices are reasonable considering the quality of their products and their shipping charges are nominal. Mike T. |

Excuse me, perhaps I'm not understanding something here. Yet the first six posts of this thread presents what appears to be unqualified advertising and such with direct links to a particular supplier. All this posted within a Thread and under the title of the Forum "Administrator"!
Traditional Forums of which I'm a member don't permit such apparent direct-marketing commercialism within Threads. Such out of concern for turning an informational gathering of enthusiasts into little more than a marketplace and likely losing all membership. The referenced 'presentations' also raise issues of personal financial connections/interests/incentives of the person posting with the products shown. I'd sincerely appreciate clarification here. A 'pending' take |

Iskra, I honestly don't see it that way... This is just a fellow member sharing information on currently available Winchester branded accessories. His first 6 posts actually prompted the other comments / reviews that followed about the product quality from others that have hands on experience buying from there. Winchester branded accessories are getting harder to find, and its helpful when someone shares their experience. Midwest gun works is also source for original parts and accessories, and is an authorized Winchester repair center. Its a good place to start looking if you need parts, service or accessories for many of the older or discontinued models in my opinion.

I myself GREATLY appreciate the leads to quality slings. I used to use the SAME Hunter military style leather sling on all the I owned. It is still one of my favorite actual shooting slings. The Cobra style slings though are the easiest to carry. Getting the RIGHT sling on a Winchester is important to me. One above posts mentions Mid Way USA. They have supplied a number of my slings and are an excellent company to work with. NOW though they cannot ship ammo to NYS. That was a BAD MOVE for New Yorkers. Winchester Forum has some stuff and helpfulness that other sites just don't have! If there is a "commercial" plug we can decide for ourselves? One of the most important things in my TOUGH farming business is finding QUALITY suppliers. I used to do all my own leather work, sold many notebooks custom sewn and hand tooled. Also I made and sold saddles, rifle scabbards (the famous outdoor writer Jack O'Connor owned two of mine).
I made gun holsters and cartridge belts. Now I buy them and the cost of leather work for me has shot through the roof. One of my sources now is Circle KB leather in Idaho. But they have a waiting list and are not cheap. I have ordered custom two gun rigs from them and the quality was PERFECT. I don't think I can afford to do that today.None of the postings on this site are for really expensive slings. Some of them are very well done. To really buy a rifle sling in fact you need to try them on your rifle and carry it the way you want to. Either that or you buy and try......then buy and try....until your finances die. If you have been there and done that you know what I mean. Any help or source is better than not knowing. You do get to know poster's party lines. Most are really helpful here and that is better than anywhere else I have found in relation to firearms. Most sites are filled with guys just pushing what they know which has struck me as mindless brand loyalty. I regard Winchester as a Great brand. This site seems to be really remarkable and helpful and I cannot believe how easy and accurate to post. With editing capability which I need as I can shoot WAY BETTER than I can type! |

Anyone with personal experience with these sling varieties? Would love some first hand reviews of them before I try one. How is the metal-work on them? Or is it plastic? I am looking for a sling that is for the ages that I can trust with precious carriage and weight of my Pre-64.
Personally, I don't see these posts as malicious advertising. It is specifically related to the interest of Winchester owners and enthusiasts so someone (even an administrator) thought it prudent to share with the group, and I am glad they did. I have been looking for a new sling worthy of a very valuable Winchester rifle and I am not inclined to use one that has a Browning or Remington logo on it, nor one that is of questionable quality. |

This is an old thread. Usually I am on Browning Owners Forum. But I own a lot of rifle slings, including Brownings. My favorite though are Hunters. MidWay USA has a Colonel Whelen sling on sale right now and a friend just bought one for his Model 70Featherweight.
