Keep in mind that these sites are a quick reference, but not always 100% accurate.
I recently found an error while checking model 70 online data, there are discrepancies in the years around 1942 through 1948 (and possibly more). The mfg dates listed online directly before and after WWII won't always agree with "The winchester book" dates given by Madis. My 5-digit model 70 serial number is 1948 D.O.M. according to internet databases, but a 1942 DOM according to Madis. I will assume Madis is correct since the date in the book for my serial number matches the date stamped on the underside of the barrel.
