Just picked up the above at Fin Feather Fur in Middleburg Hts, Ohio for a steal of
a price -$600!! Also, Winchester will rebate the sales tax thru 9/15 purchases
and up to $50 in ammo thru 9/30 - must be on receipt with rifle . Only .270 & 30-06
at that price. List price is $1069, FFF's reg price is $960. Plan on topping it with
Leupold bases & rings with Nikon ProStaff 3-9x40. Any suggestions on factory .270
ammo for deer and boar would be appreciated.

Welcome to the Winchester Owners Forum Ed !!

I like Hornady ammo and would use the 130-140 grain for deer, and the 150 grain for hogs:

Ballistic Performance of .270 Winchester

Bullet weight/type.............Velocity................Energy

130 gr (8.4 g) SST............. 3,200 fps.............. 2,955 ft·lbs

130 gr (8.4 g) SP............... 3,060 fps.............. 2,702 ft·lbs

140 gr (9.1 g) SP............... 2,916 fps.............. 2,644 ft·lbs

150 gr (9.7 g) SP................2,850 fps............. 2,706 ft·lbs

Thanks, Shooter. Dick's Sporting Goods had the 130 gr Superformance for $25, so I picked up a couple boxes. They group very well. Brass & bullets are so clean & polished - much better than even Federal Premiums. Just got a Nikon 3-9x40 Buckmaster from Midway for $180, plus $30 rebate on top of that. Will put that on the M70 this weekend and the ProStaff back on the M16.

Interestingly, Lesaus44, I just picked one up --also in Ohio. Mine is 30-06 SS. The historical data site at the Winchester shows two models: 535966228 and 535119220 for the featherweight SS in 30-06
The first ended in 2006 and the second in 2011. The latter MSRP was $1069 and the former $806.
Aside from nearly imperceptable measurement differences in the stock (drop at comb 1/4th inch difference, I do not see any major differences. Mine had the Prostaff Nikon 4-12x40BDC attached, albeit with the incorrect front mounting plate (so far off, I could see the problem without a leveler).
So, any way to tell which item I have? Shoots fine....will be used for hunting.

The FWT Model 70 in stainless should have been produced a lot more! I have never seen one!
