I just acquired a win 1894 WCF 1928
Fired 2 rounds all good good firing pin hole on primer good.
Accept the extraction is poor.
Stripped it right down, cleaned it, oiled it.
Over all very good.
The barrel is 26 inch with a dove tail underneath between the muzzle and the tube.
Also a hole for the tube cap screw if there was a full length tube.
Tube is short hold 5 rounds.
Was this barrel made for a long tube and a short tube option.
OR
Did someone change the barrel or the tube.
Or did they make them like that.
===================================
The extractor still does not work good even after the clean.
It sits little higher then the top of the bolt is this a common height.
On both my post 64 and pre 64 win 94 30 30 the extractor is flush with
the top of the bolt.
Did some one change the extractor.
Seem to me the extractor is not deep enough into the bolt face to do a good extraction.
All an any comments welcome.

Hello and welcome to the site.

I would say that someone has changed the magazine.I myself have never seen a short magazine that had the grove cut that you could see with a short magazine like you describe.

I do not know about the extraction.Perhaps someone changed the barrel at the same time as the tube.Just a guess.

Welcome to the Winchester Owners Forum ugotit33 !!

I would take it to a gunsmith for a checkup...there you could find out what corrective actions will make your vintage 1894 a shooter again !!

Good Luck...

Thank you all.
I tried it as soon as I got it.
I'm a gun smith myself but never seen this set up.
Any way all mechanical worked.
SO
I shortened the barrel to 20 inches.
Dove tailed the front sight in.
Blued the whole rifle etc.
Refitted the home made extractor which was not to bad, just not seated deep enough.
Will try and post a few pictures when I learn how to.
Cheers

OK SHRUNK THE PICS.
First picture is of the last few day's comparison since I got the rifle Friday.

The next two are today after I finished re bluing everything and back together.
Barrel is shortened from 26" to 20 " and I threaded and made a muzzle break.
