Hi all, as a long time shooter and reloader and having recently come back to the shooting sports after a long hiatus. I've been afflicted by the 45-70 bug...and am looking for an 1886 or a Highwall whichever I come across first and I'm looking forward to learning a lot from y'all. Thanks in advance :D BTW, the only Winchester I have currently is a pristine Mod 12, 16 ga....

Welcome to the forum.. Hopefully its a short and successful search for the .45-70 you are after. I look forward to hearing about your new rifle, and what you decide to load for it.
I load for a few calibers, my all time favorite is still my 1876 model in .45-75 caliber . A lightly compressed load of Pyrodex CTG behind a jacketed 350 grain bullet works great, Pyrodex does a great job duplicating the black powder charges it was made for without the corrosion problems and safety issues.
