Hello all! New member here from Cincinnati Ohio. Purchased my first lever action rifle this past Saturday at Cabelas in Dundee Michigan. It is a 1962 production Winchester 1894. The wood and blueing on the receiver is in excellent shape and it is hard to find any single flaw on this thing! The rifle was supposedly purchased from an estate. They told me a woman came in and told them her father bought it new and took it up north occasionally with a few friends to go deer hunting. Both her and the guy who purchased it from her said they think it may have never been shot. I am not so sure about this but I do know the thing is in great shape!

My question is two fold:

1) My barrel band that attaches over top of the front wood grip has a screw that doesnt seem to want to go back into place... it isn't grabbing any thread on the back piece of the barrel band and even the head looks to be pointing at the screw going in on a slight angle (head of screw isnt level when it is pushed down all the way into rifle). It is not a huge deal but since I took it apart my first day home with this rifle I would like to get this to bite into something so I dont lose the screw!

2) While trying to get the screw mentioned above (for the barrel band over the wood front grip) removed and put back into the rifle I removed the blueing (or black paint?) front the screw... not sure what they use on the screws individually to give them the dark coloring that matches the rifle. It stands out because the rifle is so beautiful and doesnt really have any scratches I have noticed anywhere on it yet. Is there a place I can order a replacement? Or can I paint or blue this screw to match the rifle again so it doesnt stand out terribly?

Thanks for the info and look forward to learning more through this forum as well as checking out all of your nice lever action rifles! :D
