Hello All,
I am evaluating a 1968 model 94 Classic Octagon barrel in 30-30. The rifle looks to be in great shape and does not appear to have been fired very much. Checking for more information I am unable to find anything about the meaning of a gold / brass plated spring cover and gold / brass sight blade? Is this some version of a commemorative edition? I am hoping to purchase the rifle later today but want to know more in order to be certain I am getting a fair deal for it.
This will be my first lever action rifle so I am pretty excited about it!
BTW I will be casting and reloading for it so any feedback regarding that area is also appreciated!

Very nice. Other than the stock and no receiver plates. Has the looks of a '73.

Thats a 1967 Winchester Classic with tang sight and brass blank in the rear sight dovetail. They were $119.95 in 1967 and celebrates the completion of the 3,000,000th M94. Hard to tell from pic if you have the 20" or 26" bbl. Probably less than 60,000 made.

Have wondered awhile as the why to remove the rear sight. Surely the tang will elevate above the sight. If a fellow decides to remove the tang sight, no sight.

26" barrel and if I understand the serial number decoder it shows 1968? 3170218

Pretty good looking gun for a 30-30. Octagonal barrel is nice. Gold inlay is nice too. Reloading for the 30-30 is a breeze. I started there with a Lee Loader, one-at-a-time, and made very accurate ammo out of that open sighted barrel. Winchester 748 is an excellent Ball Powder for that cartridge. If you get the gun, I can offer you some low-hanging-fruit starting recipes in 130 grain, 150 grain, and 170 grain jacketed bullets. Your barrel will tell you what it likes. I preferred the 150 grain jacketed bullets myself in the 94, but have since sold that gun (could not mount a top scope on it and side saddle was not for me) and moved to 170 grain cast bullets in a pair of Marlin 336's with their micro-grooved barrels.

I'd sure like to see a closeup pic of that brass sight blade.
As mentioned previously, anything south of Redding is Southern Ca.
