Picked up a 4" Rock Island Armory MS 1911a1 today...

Been curious about the brand for a while and since I've been needing a mid-sized 1911 in my life I figured I'd give 'em a shot.......so to speak. It's not a true commander length, but it'll do just fine. It's park'd with a set of pretty basic wood grips, but those'll get replaced very soon. I'm thinking about installing an extended beavertail grip safety, an extended thumb safety, a commander style hammer, and a new trigger as well.

Enough talk, here are the pics...

All mine are in .45acp, but I've been wanting a 9mm 1911 for a while now. I'll probably end up with an STI eventually...

Finally got out to the range with the Rock Island MS 1911a1 this morning.

Image

Image

Took it out with the new SIG P220 and let a few fly. Only a few 'cause it was so damn cold outside I couldn't feel my fingers and reloading the mags was almost impossible. Still, it shot well. Feeding and extraction were flawless. The trigger is a little spongy compared to my other 1911s, but I must say that I am VERY impressed with this pistol. For an entry level 1911 with a 4" barrel it shot like a champ. Here's one of my best groups at 25yds...

Just goes to show that you don't have to drop a bundle on a 1911 to get a solid shoot'n pistol. We'll see how she holds up over time, but I am extremely pleased so far...

Got out and put 250rds through the Spartan this morning. I have to say I'm VERY pleased with its performance. Had zero issues an no failures of any kind. The Spartan locks up tight as a drum and the action is smoothe as silk. The trigger is light and crispas well. Recoil is very minimal which allows for very fast target acquisition on follow-up shots. The adjustable rear sight was dialed in from the start and the fiber optic front post lit up like a laser. I love my .45 1911s, but this 9mm is one helluva fun shooter.

Here are two of the best targets of the day...

Ten rounds @ 10yds

Thirty rounds @ 25yds
