94 22 XTR variations?

What were the variations of the XTR? I see some with rather plain wood, some with beautiful figuring, some gloss finishes, some that look like an oil finish. I had assumed they were all pretty much the same.

The XTR's can be checkered or plain, most have a premium finish and nice wood grain.
