Hello, just had a few questions about the model 12 heavy duck. I am looking at a few Cabelas has and a local gun shop. Can I still use 2 3/4 inch shells in them. Are the models with the rib sight worth that much more than those without. Thanks

Thanks for the reply. Still wondering if they can use 2 3/4 inch shells. And here is a big question. Cabela's in Dundee, MI has a couple I was looking at. One that was made in 1939 and the other in 1950. If anyone would like to look at them on there web sight they are in the gun library. My question is in the one made in 1939 had the stock cut down or does it just have a strange looking recoil pad. Something just don't look right about it. And are they worth the money. One more question, is there anything better between different years like is a pre-war better, or is a 48 better then a 52? Thanks again....jimmy

There are more than 2 listed. If you are talking about the first on that comes up the stock was definitely cut so that is why the pad looks funny. The 2nd one that comes up is nice but in my opinion is all the money at 899. A 48 is no better than a 52.

Thanks for the help. I am looking at about 5 differant shotguns. A little history. I once bought a Remington 1100 Magnum. I got a really good deal on it. And later I found out why. It would only shoot 3 inch shells. That is why I needed to know if the Model 12 Heavy Duck could shoot 2 3/4 shells also. And one more question, is the solid rib worth another $200-400? Solid ribs are always worth more than plain bbl. unless they were refinished with hot blue. $200 to 400 is about in the range.

Thanks for the help Mr. Muerrle. I am going to look at a heavy duck at my local Cabelas. Is there anything I should look at. Or anything l should check. Its in the Gun Library at the Kansas City Kansas store if you would like to see it. Let me know what you think. Is it all original? Thanks...Jim

OOPPS!! I feel like a total idiot. I see the Pauline now. I am so sorry. You have a really cool websight. I just zipped through it real quick (I'll look at it later) did you work at the Winchester Plant. You got some really neat pictures of the plant. What are they doing with the plant now. I sad to see any closed plant. I should know I have been at two. I work for GM.

Read the website and you will see where I worked. The plant was closed early 2000s. My building has been torn down but others are still standing. Yale University owns much of the property now.
