Model 12 durability

Hi, all.....

I want to get a shotgun for general use--home defense and range use, mostly--and none of the current models "do it" for me. They all have the personality of a used spark plug.

I like the Model 12, but I'm worried about how well it will stand up against more current models. I was also thinking about getting a shorter barrel (18-20'') or cutting an existing one down. I'm not talking about cutting down an expensive skeet barrel, but a cheap one off of ebay.

Opinions??

How about a Winchester model 97? They have eye candy and slam fire. Available in 30" 28" and military trench/police riot. Heck, the mil will accept a bayonet in case some fool wants to knife fight.

Standup? The Mod 12 had been standing for a century and will stand for another century. What other shotgun EVER made can make that statement? Short barrel, 7 shots, hold the trigger down and pump, what else do you need? Great gun.
