Is anyone else having problems with an occasional light hammer strike with a'94 AE?
I have a .30/30 trapper, w/cross bolt safety and rebounding hammer that will strike light every 20 rds or so. Ammunition doesn't seem to matter, and I keep the action "whistle clean" and very light oil. I don't think the firing pin is hanging up. Has anyone tried a slight change in angle on the hammer spring saddle?? |

Look for a pre-rebounding hammer & tang assembly to swap out.

I've heard this is a problem with some of the rebounding hammer guns. You might find other brands of ammo work better. I'm thinking folks had this problem most with Remington core-lokt, so if that's what you're shooting you might run a box of Federals (or some other) through it and see if the problem still occurs. You could also put a small flat washer behind the hammer spring and see if a slightly higher spring tension helps. A light strike every 20 or so rounds can be pretty frustrating, especially when hunting.

A light strike very often indicates a weak hammer spring. Shim the spring and see if that helps. Twenty shots at a game animal? You need more practice. |
