I'll begin with a greeting from Vancouver Island and a photo of one of my pre-64 Model 70's. A 1953 300 H&H. This one's in excellent condition.

Very nice gun; I love the wood finish. The Model 70 is on my near future gun list. What do you use it for? Would you recommend getting a new model 70 or a pre 64 Model 70?

What a beauty! I bet she shoots like a dream. How long have you owned it?

This M70 I bought around 20 years ago off the original owner and have taken it on a number of hunts. I new what I had and always gave it the best of care. This 300 H&H is a very nice shooting rifle that consistantly holds a tight group. The 300 H&H cartridge, with the long tapered case goes thru the action, of this old M70, like a hot knife thru butter.
I own quite a few of these pre-64 M70's and a M54 in varing models and calibers. It's great that the control round feed M70 is once again available in a new Winchester Rifle and would be my rifle of choice if I were to buy a brand new one. I've shot and handled quite a few different brands and models of rifles but I still prefer the pre-64 M70 over any of the others. There's beauty in simplicity . . |

Your area of residence does have some bearing on the price but a decent pre-64 M70 is still a great bargain. The rarer the caliber and model the higher the price; but 3 major factors usually determine the price:
1. - rarity 2. - originality 3. - condition . . . factor this into the area, the demand and the state of the economy equals selling price. |

Thanks for the advice, ill be sure to keep all this in mind when the time comes for me to purchase a new rifle.

Nice rifle. How's the recoil with the steel butt plate and downward sloping comb? Think the .300 H & H magnum deserves a big come back.
