Im new to this forum. I took in on trade a 1949 winchester model 70 in 257 roberts.
Im not a collector so im looking to get information find a value and sell it.
It has a cut out for a peep sight and a old weaver scope mounted on it.
The serial # - 136597 i was told it was a 1949-1/2 but again im not sure.
I will submit photos on the next post.

A post war (1949) Winchester M70 in .257 Roberts ( made 1937 to 1959 ) in the condition shown above would probably fetch $1200 in excellent working order...but please bear in mind you will not get that price at a gun shop or gun show...probably only from a collector of M70's in odd calibers. Higher then the books say. I saw 3 that sold for above $2500 that didnt look as good. I hope there are More of them out there. Lol I am trying to find the original peep site , a lyman 48. Thanks again for the info |

Unfortunately a non factory finish will affect the value.

The finish that was on it when i got it was not the original finish either. So i did research to find out the best
Way to refinish or if i should leave it alone. I was told that the apperience or it being refinished properly would Acually help concidering that it was refinished. Not sure if its true but if i was going to keep it i like how it looks Now then before. I really like it but i do want to sell it. |
