Hi,
I'm glad I found this forum.
I recently inherited 5 lever action guns from my dad in law.
4 of them are Winchester 94 models, and one a Uberti clone of a 1873 model.
I look forward to hanging out here, and learning about hunting with them, as well as reloading etc.

Hi 28 gauge, They are as follows: Winchester 94 Octagonal barrel (SN 81117) 38-55. Winchester 94 Engraved (Deer) 32 Win Spl. Winchester 94 22 magnum. Winchester 94 22 (all). Uberti 1873 Sporting 44-40. |

Hi 28 gauge,
I am keeping them nice and clean until we have bought our ranch. Then I will use them for hunting. I have only taken them out to the range to practice a bit, and am in the process of getting the right reloading dies so I have all the reloadable calibers ready. |

That sounds great.Reloading can be a lot of fun.
Of the big bore rifles you have,I have only used the .32 Special.In the past I had two of them at different times.A Model 94 carbine and a Model 64 rifle.At that time I did not reload so I used only factory loads. Carried both rifles in the field for a bit,but never bagged anything with either rifle.Only punched holes in paper with them. Looking at the little dates of manufacture book I have ,the serial number of your .38-55 rifle lists to 1897. |

Yes, That 32 special sure gives people something to admire at the range. It has beautiful engravings, scrolling on the left side, and a deer scene on the right, with some scrolling on the barrel and tang, a gold trigger and hammer. It has a very good kick too, a couple of my "Black assault gun" toting friends were shocked. They were all laughing at my antiquated rifle at first, until they saw the holes, and then shot it a few times. LOL.

And here is the 1897 built 1894 rifle, in 38-55. I have yet to shoot it. I did just finish completely cleaning it and inspecting it, and it seems good to go. What basic round should I test it with?

Yes the engraving is well done on the .32 Special.Do you know who did the engraving?
The .38-55 looks to be a nice old rifle in really great shape for the year it was made.From the pictures it does not appear to have had much use. As far as I know the only factory loading for the .38-55 uses a 255 grain bullet.There could be other grain bullets available to the hand loader,but I am not sure. The bullet dia.is .375 and be sure to use only flat nose bullets in the tube magazine of the rifle if you do hand loading for it. |

Hi, Yes it is beautiful. I have no idea who did it. Next time I take it out I will look under a magnifying glass and see if there is a name. The 38-55 is really nice, yes, it looks pretty much not used at all, for its age. THanks for the tip on loading. I do have the Lyman 49th, but want to find out anything else on that caliber outside of the few things Lyman has on it. Have a great week! |

Looking forward to hearing more about you rifles in the future.
The .32 Special was introduced in 1902 for the Model 94 rifle. The .38-55 was one of the two first loadings in the Model 94 the other being the .32-40.Both of these cartridges were around before the introduction of the Model 94. |
